Formed in 1993 by singer/songwriter Dave Bielanko, bassist Danny Metz and drummer Ronnie Vance, Marah’s sound is a bluesy classic rock, inspired by traditional country, Philly soul, doo-wop and, as more than one critic has pointed out, “ambitious Springsteenisms: all those bells and saxes.” To date, the band has released five full albums (not counting remixes and Christmas albums), ranging from the straight-ahead rock they’re known for on “The Kids in Phillly” to dance-inspired Britpop on “Float Away With the Friday Night Gods.” Still, despite long-time critical acclaim, Marah have yet to find mainstream success. Among the critics and writers who have championed Marah are Nick Hornby, Stephen King and Rolling Stone’s David Fricke.
